biography...I
began teaching First Grade at Holy Ghost in August 2003. After
substituting for several years at Holy Ghost, I decided to return to
teaching full time. The warm, friendly, Christian and family
atmosphere makes Holy Ghost a wonderful place to teach. As a
parent and teacher, one of my most spiritual experiences is enjoying
the student participation during school mass. I
graduated from Louisiana State University in December 1982 with a
degree in Elementary Education, and am in my twelfth year s an
elementary teacher. I taught in East Baton Rouge Parish for
eight years, in St. John the Baptist Parish for one, and now am in my
third year at Holy Ghost. During
years of teaching, I have developed a passion for teaching mathematics
to early elementary students. I have been requested three years
to present my methods at the National Conference of Teachers of Math
and was able to attend and present two of those years. My NCTM
presentation materials were requested for publication by Carson-Delosa.
I have also been recognized by the Louisiana Association of Teachers
of Math Excellence and by NCTM as an Outstanding Teacher of Math at
Tanglewood Elementary. While
teaching in Baton Rouge, I was asked to serve as an Advisory Council
Member for East Baton Rouge Parish Redesign Board. I also served
as a supervising teacher for Louisiana State University education
students during their methods rotations in science, math, and social
studies. I also have enjoyed organizing learning events for
kindergarten through sixth grade students such as the Science
Exploratorium and Math Fair. I
believe continuing education and professional development is essential
to maintaining current skills an improving practices. So of my
highlight professional development activities to date are:
K-3 Math Specialist Project with the Exxon Educational Foundation
Activities Integrating Math and Science (AIMS – 80 hrs.)
Kathy Richardson Math Workshops
Math Their Way workshop (40 hrs.)
Star Lab
Whole Language
Guided Reading
Thinking Maps
Accelerated Reader
Write From the Beginning
Boys Town Workshops When not involved with my Holy Ghost family, I love to read, travel and enjoy the beach. Most importantly, I value family time and traditions.
