biography...As Beth begins her 12th year, she moves to 4th grade after teaching language arts in 7th grade. She has also taught art for five years to Pre-K through 4th graders. Beth was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland
and attended twelve years of Catholic school. After graduating
from Seton High School, an all-girls school, she attended Strayer’s
Business College. Beth then entered the workforce as an
executive secretary for two firms in Baltimore. During this
time, she married Hugh Daschbach (1969) and worked full-time while he
finished college and worked part-time. In 1972, they moved south to Jackson,
Mississippi, where Hugh’s parents and an older brother lived.
Their first children were born in June, 1973- twin boys, Joe and Hugh.
Beth stayed home with them, welcomed Brian in 1976, and then Brad in
1980. By the time Brad was born, Hugh and Beth had moved to
Springfield, where they had a home on three acres—the perfect place
to raise four boys! Beth was a stay-at-home mom, while Hugh was
a manufacturer’s rep for the building materials industry.
Since all of their activities seemed to take place in Hammond,
(school, church, soccer, etc), they moved to Pleasant Ridge Road in
late 1981, where they lived for almost twenty years. At about the time that Joe and Hugh were
beginning college, Beth decided that she needed to redirect her
energies. She enrolled in Southeastern Louisiana University as a
part-time student. Enjoying her role as a non-traditional
student, Beth pursed her degree in Elementary Education, grades 1-8,
and graduated in 1996. After graduation, her one and only job
application was submitted to Holy Ghost. All four of their
children were graduates of Holy Ghost, as well as St. Thomas Aquinas,
and Beth never considered working anywhere else. According to
Beth, teaching at Holy Ghost is a ministry. “The loving
environment that is an integral part of this school makes it a special
place to work. I know I could count on any faculty of staff
member if I needed them- and they can count on me.” Beth received the Wilson-Wells Teaching Award in
2003. She has been trained in Boys Town, Thinking Maps,
Write…for the Future, and Accelerated Reader. She attended
several workshops related to visual arts and looks forward to future
workshops concerning Language Arts. Beth’s hobbies are tennis, reading, cross
stitching, and traveling with her husband, Hugh. Her latest
hobby is spending time with her new grandson, Henry. Beth is a
mentor for the Court Appointed Mentor Program, which is sponsored by
Judge Grace Gasaway’s court. She is also a Eucharistic
Minister for Holy Ghost Church and co-chairman of the Sunshine Fund at
the school. |
