Pre-Kindergarten - Class Syllabus / Class Requirements

Welcome to Pre-Kindergarten! We are going to have a great year filled with learning while having fun.  Your child will be taught using three different programs.  The first program is taught by using thematic units.  In these units they will do activities to learn different objectives through different learning styles.  The second program is ABEKA.  This is a phonics program that will be taught in small group.  Your child will learn letter sounds, how to blend letters, and eventually how to read small words.   The third program we use is the Religion program Seeds.  Although religion is incorporated throughout the day, we will use this for specific instruction topics.  We feel with all of these programs combined, we will reach the needs of all the children in Pre-K.

Every Monday we will send home a Pre-K newsletter to inform you of what your child is learning that week. It will also contain any reminders.  You may also get monthly updates and possibly photos on our class website.  To get to this website go to the HGS website at www.hgschool.org.  Once you are there click on Teachers & Classes.  You will then click on Early Learning and your teacher’s picture.  You will then see a link to the website.

Folders will be sent home daily.  Inside the folder you will find your child’s discipline and snack calendar.  It is important that you check your child’s folder each day.  Please be aware of the day that your child brings snack.  Be sure there are 22 snacks and juice boxes.  Their snack day is also their share day.  They may bring an item or a story to share with the class.  In the folder you will also find any important notes from the office and/or teachers.

Thank you for being our partners in education!!

Pre-K Class Rules:
            1. Be a good listener
            2. Be a good worker
            3. Be a good friend
            4. Be a good helper
            5. Be a good rester

Pre-K Consequences:

A behavior chart is set up in each class. If a student chooses to break a rule, they will pull a tag.

            1. Green “Go”; Warning
            2. Yellow “Caution”; 2nd warning
            3. Red “Stop”; note or telephone call home

Children are always rewarded for good behavior! Each child begins the day with a fresh start. If they do not pull all tags throughout the day, they will earn a sticker on their reward chart.  On Friday their rewards will be sent home. Please acknowledge and praise your child’s good behavior as we will do the same.
