Welcome
to Sensational Second Grade! Welcome
to Second Grade! I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing summer
vacation. Below is some basic information concerning the second
grade for this year. I will be continuing to give pertinent
information throughout the year on newsletters and the school
website. If you have any further questions, please contact me by
note or through the school office at (985) 345-0977. I look forward
to working with your child and together we can make this a
successful school year! •
Arrival/Dismissal School
begins at 7: 35 a.m. in the gym. Students should not arrive at
school any earlier than 7:05 a.m. Your child is tardy if they are
not in line by the time the bell rings at 7:35. School ends at 2:30
p.m. Breakfast:
7:00-7:30 a.m. (in the cafeteria) After school care: 2:30-6:00 p.m. •
Sensational Second Grade Newsletter Parent
newsletters will be sent home on Mondays in the homework folder. It
will include upcoming events, classroom information, tests,
homework, vocabulary words/definitions, spelling words, skills of
the week, and any other important information. •
Discipline Plan The
discipline plan I use with my students is a color-coded card chart
that is used to help monitor a student's overall behavior each week.
A daily behavior calendar will be sent home in the student's blue
folder. This calendar will indicate what color card the student had
for the day. Please initial each day. A weekly grade will be posted
in the graded test folder. A copy of the discipline plan was sent
home on the first day of school for you to review. I use many
rewards for good behavior. •
Homework Policy Homework
will be assigned and listed in the student assignment pad and online
on the school website. All homework is due the next school day
unless otherwise specified. Incomplete or missed homework
assignments will be made up with the following day's assignment. A
note will be sent home for you to sign if a homework assignment is
missed. •
Parent/Teacher Conferences I
invite all parents to schedule a conference to discuss their child's
progress. If you need to set up a conference at any time of the
year, please contact the school office for an appointment or leave a
message with the secretary for me to call you for a phone
conference. •
Lunch All
students are expected to participate in the lunch program.
Please send a doctor's excuse if the child must bring a lunch from
home. Your child will be issued an account number for a prepaid
debit account for lunches. Please send all fees in the provided
cafeteria lunch envelope. •
Test Folders Test
folders will be sent home on Wednesdays and must be signed by Friday
of the same week. This is my way of knowing that you reviewed your
child's graded work and conduct grade for the week. All grades will
be on Schoolfiles website. •
Correspondence All
money, checks, etc. should come in an envelope labeled with the
following information: name, date, amount, and purpose. This ensures
that payment for items/services will get to the right recipient.
This really helps our homeroom business go much smoother. Please
label everything sent to school with your child's name. Projects,
clothing, supplies, etc. should be labeled before reaching school. •
Other Information Emergency:
In case of school closings due to weather or other sudden emergencies,
please listen to your local radio or television station. Parent
broadcasts will also send news regarding emergency procedures. Birthdays:
I will be celebrating your child's birthday week on his/her Star
Student week. I will try to coordinate that week as close as I can to
his/her birthday. Summer birthdays will be Star Student on weeks with
no other birthdays. I will send home a letter on the Friday before
their week with information to be filled out about the student. Please
send 2-3 photos of your child with the information on Monday of that
week. The Star Student will also be able to bring the class statue of
the Blessed Mary home for that week. On Friday of his/her week, you
are invited to bring a birthday snack for your child and his/her
classmates at about 2:00. Please bring snack, drink, plates, and cups
for 27 students. You are invited to stay. Please
do not send party invitations to be distributed in class for home
parties unless ALL students in the class are invited. This prevents
hurt feelings . •
First Communion and Reconciliation The dates for both of these important events will come to you from the church rectory. This year, the general dates will be Reconciliation during Lent and First Communion right after Easter. There will be parent meetings and a retreat for students about First Communion. Please inform me if your child will not make his/her First Communion and Reconciliation with our class.
