Mary Ellen Scherer is a 3rd grade
teacher entering her 9th year employed by Holy Ghost and her 29th
year of teaching-all of which have been at Holy Ghost. In 1975
she was hired by Tangipoahoa Parish and was assigned to Holy Ghost
as a Title 1/Chapter 1 Reading Teacher. Upon retiring she
quickly found herself being rehired by Principal Tommy O'Neill.
Holy Ghost is an ongoing family
tradition with her dad, sisters and herself all attending and
graduating from Holy Ghost. She graduated from Hammond High School
and Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science degree.
She later received her masters and +30 from SLU. Mary Ellen
has two children, Jamie age 25 and LIndsey age 21 who also attended
Holy Ghost.
While at Holy Ghost she has received the
Wilson Wells Outstanding Teacher Award and has been trained in
numerous programs. Some of these include Boys Town, Thinking
Maps, Project Math, Tangi Tech, Fast Forward, Accelerated Reading
and Religious Instruction.
Her passions include her children, her
family and friends, her love for outdoors, gardening, watching
sports and decorating, She intensely loves the children in her
class and they will tell you that she's "really into"
Math, Science and Social Studies, She's especially thankful
for the friends she's made at Holy Ghost and for being a positive
influence in the lives of her children.
