K-8th Computer Syllabus Kindergarten
and First Grades - students
will learn about the parts of the computer system and their uses. They
will also begin building keyboarding skills, mouse skills, and using
computer application programs. Students attend computer class every
other week. Second,
Third, and Fourth Grades -
students will build upon the skills learned in previous years. At this
time, they will be introduced to on-line research.
Students attend computer class every other week. Fifth,
Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grades -
students will continue to develop their researching skills, problem
solving, critical thinking, communication, and a wide range of
computer applications. Students will be exposed to a wide variety of
technological experiences with the goal of understanding how to apply
technology skills to real world experiences.
Students attend computer class for a two-week period at a time,
rotating with Spanish and PE throughout the school year. In addition, computer
care, ethics, and safety will be taught at all levels.
Development of keyboarding skills is also emphasized at all
grade levels. Cell phone etiquette will be discussed with grades 4-8. HGS ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY – Students are expected to follow the guidelines that are printed in the HGS Student Handbook governing the use of computers in the lab and classrooms. Computer Lab rules regarding computer usage in the lab will be reviewed with students on their first day of computer class, and students are expected to abide by these rules also. Rules will also be posted in the computer lab and a copy will be sent home with each student. Mrs. Pat Schmit
