biography...
On September 28, 1950
Susan Zewe was born in New Orleans to Peter and Gloria Dottolo.
Being the oldest of seven children, she soon developed a nurturing
spirit. This would prepare her for her calling as a teacher.
Susan grew up in LaPlace where she attended John L. Ory Elementary
and Leon Godchaux High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts
degree in elementary education from Southeastern Louisiana
University in May of 1972. In November of "72 she
married her high school sweetheart, the late John Carroll Zewe.
They have two daughters, Amanda and Courtney, and also James,
their son-in-law.
Susan has been an educator for the
past 32 years. Her family moved to Hammond in July of 1989
and she accepted a position at Holy Ghost. Prior to that
time, she taught in St. John the Baptist Parish. Over the
past nineteen years, Susan has taught fourth, fifth, sixth, and
third grades. She is also a member of Holy Ghost
Catholic Church where she serves as a Eucharistic Minister.
While at Holy Ghost School, Susan has received the Wilson
Wells Outstanding teacher award in 1991 and was named Teacher
of the Year in 1995. She has been trained in such areas as Boys
Town, Thinking Maps, FastForward, Conflict Resolution, Accelerated
Reading, and Religious Education. Susan's philosophy can be summed up in these words --- live well, laugh often, love much! Her journey in life has strengthened her faith. She puts Jesus first with her family, friends and students next. Spending time with loved ones on weekends, holidays, and birthdays is an opportunity for her to cook and bake favorite Cajun and Italian family recipes to be shared by those near and dear to her heart. She relaxes while listening to old time Rock 'n Roll music and dancing to hits from the '50's and '60's. When time permits, you'll find her curled up with a good book. She enjoys flower arranging, making craft items, and decorating. Her goal is to do all that she can to make a difference now and always.
