Child
Immunizations - A notice to the parents of 5th
through 8th grade students:
An FYI notice for you to
please update your children’s immunizations over
the summer. Students
in these grades (11-12 years of age) should have
or should receive their 11-12 year old boosters.
The ones that are routinely administered at
this age are the Tdap adolescent preparation.
If your child has not had chicken pox, then
the Varivax is strongly recommended.
There is another immunization, the Menactra,
which is being offered and recommended with the
11-12 year old boosters.
This vaccine is highly effective against
many (not all) of the bacteria that can cause
meningococcal disease.
An additional vaccine, the Hepatitis A, is
recommended for children 1 year old and older.
The initial dose is given followed by the
second one 6 months later.
This is different from the Hep. b
immunizations your children received.
The Tangipahoa Parish Health
Unit (543-4165) as well as your physician will
offer these immunizations and answer any questions
that you may have.
If you would like more information on these
vaccines and recommended schedule, check out the
CDC web national immunization program website at www.cdc.gov/nip.
