*Once a cast member accepts their part, a $75.00 must be paid in order to receive a script and be an official member of The Spirit of the Stage - HGCS Drama Club.
The first hour is spent getting everyone comfortable and shaking the nerves off with theatre games that reveal creativitiy, spontaneity, and the ability to work well in a group. This has always proven to be great fun for all.
The second hour is singing auditions. This may be a cappella or with student-provided accompaniment such as a CD or iPod/iPhone. Selections should be no longer than 60 seconds. Students may sing alone or in planned duets or small groups. While individual singing is preferred, singing with a friend may provide the courage needed to share their gift with all.
About The Spirit of the Stage:
Last year, we presented the magnificent musical, Lion King, Jr. on March 30th & 31st, 2017 at the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts. It was very well-received by our Hammond community. Thanks to all of our sponsors and contributors!
Holy Ghost is proud to offer the Drama Club for students in grades 5th - 8th. The Spirit of the Stage has presented musical theatre to the students of Holy Ghost, a few surrounding schools, and the general public since 1995. Some past productions include Grease, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz, and most recently, selections from Music Theatre International's popular Broadway Junior series. These productions include Annie Jr., Honk Jr., Into the Woods Jr., Aladdin Jr., Disney's Alice in Wonderland, Jr., Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Jr, Willie Wonka, Jr., Seussical, Jr., and Disney's The Little Mermaid, Jr., Peter Pan, Jr., and Lion King, Jr. We have been in association with Rogers and Hammerstein Theatricals by staging productions of Cinderella and Once Upon a Mattress which were a part of their G2K (Getting to Know) musical theatre series.
The club has performed at the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts for the past 13 years. Rehearsals are held after school hours in the Parish Hall. There is a $75.00 entry fee which covers the cost of costumes, scripts, and the rights to do the play. Other costs of production (backdrops, sets, and theatre rental) are funded through the donations of our generous patrons. The Spirit of the Stage is directed by Suzanne Gautier.
Atlanta Junior Theatre Festival:

Honors and Awards:
The Spirit of the Stage has won numerous awards at the annual Junior Theatre Festival held in Atlanta. These awards include Excellence in Music, Acting, Choreography, Inspiration, and the Freddie G. Fellowship Award.
Mrs. Suzanne Gautier, director of Holy Ghost Catholic School’s Spirit of the Stage Drama Club, recently received a $5,000 endowment as part of the Freddie G. This monetary gift can be used for technical equipment, costuming, space, etc. The use of this endowment will be used to further and improve the nurturing development and growth of the HGCS Drama Club.
